We all engage for one mission.
I joined the Legal Department of Merz Therapeutics in January 2021. Previously I’d been a lawyer in a large German law firm – I made the transition into the corporate world because I wanted to see the outcome of my daily work more directly, and to have a more team-based approach to legal topics.
It all starts with a coffee! The first cappuccino is always prepared at home on my espresso machine. If I go into the office, I might then have a second coffee at the office with a colleague. The morning is usually the time for e-mails, meetings and calls. Afterwards, I work on my to do list, mostly reviewing or drafting contracts. After lunch if I am working from home, I’ll go to the park for a walk, but in the office I always try to grab lunch with colleagues. Then I turn on some good music and try to get my current projects finished. If the evening is not already planned, I’ll throw in some exercise two or three times a week.
Though I am not in contact with the patients directly, I try to support the different teams and departments as best as I can with what I do, knowing that this may have a positive influence on the patient in the end.
There is a sense of overarching team work and engagement for the “big picture”, which is shared by all employees. That is motivating for me. Also, everybody that I’ve met has been very friendly and easy to work with, which makes going to work in the morning all the more enjoyable.
Don’t overthink it. The pharmaceutical industry is a special environment, but at the same time, there are regular people like you and me working in it.
